Observing the Human Moment
My work is rooted in the observation of human life and the moments that shape it. I am drawn to figurative and narrative painting because it allows me to explore the subtle interplay between gesture, expression, and environment — the small, often unspoken stories that unfold in everyday interactions, historical echoes, or quiet moments of reflection.
Narrative Through Stillness
In my paintings, figures inhabit spaces that are at once familiar and heightened. Streets, interiors, or classical settings become stages on which human emotion and behaviour are revealed. I am less concerned with narrative as plot than with narrative as presence: a glance, a posture, or a pause can carry a weight far greater than words. The viewer is invited to inhabit the moment, to consider what is visible and what is withheld, and to bring their own experience to bear on the scene.
Material, Light, and Process
Materials and technique are integral to this exploration. I work primarily in oils, sometimes enriched with gold leaf or ink, on panel or canvas. I value the depth and richness of pigment, the way light interacts with surface, and the tension between precise line and painterly breadth. These choices are not purely decorative; they heighten the psychological and emotional resonance of the subject and honour painting itself as a meditative, tactile process.
Some of my works draw inspiration from classical and traditional forms, as a framework to explore contemporary human experience. Figures from history, legend, or memory inhabit the same space as ordinary people, revealing the parallels between past and present, heroism and vulnerability, action and reflection. The traditionall references create a dialogue between epochs, reminding us that human emotions remain constant across time.
An Invitation to Reflect
Ultimately, I hope my paintings offer the viewer a space for contemplation and engagement. Whether through the stillness of a street scene, the intimacy of a portrait, or the echo of classical grandeur, my work seeks to illuminate the human condition and its enduring beauty.
