The painting invites you to share a moment when a lady lights a devotional candle in church. In the background, in a dark chapel, is a vague image of Jesus Pantocrator looking over her. There is a brass candle holder and a table with more votive lights behind her, meaning that this dark scene has no single source of light.

The composition balances stillness and ritual. The warm glow of the candles ruptures the dark architecture, and the light captures the woman’s pink scarf, and glints off the brass candlestands. In this painting, I have tried to make devotion visible, capturing a contemplative moment in paint, offering a glow that stays with you.
